The Salter Group recognizes that the development of credible forecasts in conjunction with the development and use of advanced valuation modeling techniques, and a rich understanding of the risk-return profile for investors, lenders and strategic partners in the sector, is a critical requirement to develop valuation opinions and advisory services that are highly defendable and enable all parties to facilitate transactions. As such, through our affiliate relationships, The Salter Group has developed capabilities to access and generate robust primary research data (both qualitative and quantitative) via access to 100,000’s of key opinion leaders (“KOLs”), physicians and care providers, payors, consumers and other experts to support the development of credible, defensible forecasts. In particular, we leverage our data-driven, primary research efforts with secondary research and analogs (or comparables) via a triangulation technique to develop credible forecasts for a product, portfolio, or royalty stream. We do not rely solely on analogs for key elements of a forecast including roll out rate and time to peak market sales. Since no forecast is ever perfect, we apply simulation and sensitivity testing analytic techniques to generate confidence levels for the forecast.
We regularly use Monte Carlo simulation and option based techniques, in addition to more standard risk adjusted net present value techniques and market comparable assessments, to determine a reasonable range of valuation outcomes. Since we are a financial advisory firm first, and not a sales & marketing based consulting firm, our process is integrated from beginning to end, noting that many times there are key interplays between the underlying assumptions across the range from primary research to valuation application. As such, our work product is well received by investors, bankers, lenders, ratings agencies and others as we understand the key elements they require to make a transaction decision.
While the scope of our tax and financial reporting work may not require all of the above, our experience in developing forecasts and valuation indications of both assets and companies to assist in market transactions certainly helps in our ability to provide valuation opinions that will withstand the scrutiny of auditors, the SEC and the IRS.
